Felicitation program in New Delhi turns into a disaster

New Delhi: Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium was the chosen venue for felicitation programme for Indian athletes who won medals in 2012 London Olympics. Sushil Kumar, Yogehswar Dutt, Vijay Kumar, Gagan Narang, Saina Nehwal and MC Mary Kom were presented with cash awards by Sports Ministry.

But very soon the honour function became a disaster after the crowd and fans thrashed on to the dais to meet their athletes. The other participating athletes were so annoyed that they left the stadium in disgust. The president of Wrestling Federation of India, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh was furious at the sports authority of India for not being able to organize such a big show properly.

Though the president was shouting loudly at the crowd to calm down, it was in vain. The indiscipline among the Indians is just getting worse. Mr. Bhushan Singh was so humiliated that he decided not to attend any further functions organized by Sports Authority of India. The Wrestling Federation also gave two medals to the athletes but their name wasn’t mentioned by the Sports Authority at all. This irked Bhushan Singh even more.

Even the family members of the athletes were disappointed by the way the program progressed. The names of the athletes were taken wrongly while addressing them in the final event in Olympics.

Misbehavior of police who were present at the venue is another topic altogether. Including the media people weren’t allowed near the dais because of which, there wasn’t any proper media coverage of the event. This definitely was not what the athletes deserved; after making the country proud.
