Country mourns Vilas Rao Deshmukh demise

India News: The death of 67 year old Vilas Rao Deshmukh comes as a shock to the political and film fraternity. He was suffering from cardiac trouble hours before he breathed his final breath. He passed away in Chennai after prolonged illness. His body was brought to his hometown Marathwada of Latur district in Maharashtra where he will be cremated.

He joined politics in 1970 into the Congress party of Marathwada assembly and held it together in few of the toughest phases. He was presently working as the Union Minister for Science and Technology, Minister of Earth Sciences and Minister of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises. Before this, he served the government of Maharashtra as Chief Minister for two terms 1999-2008, Minister of Panchayati Raj and Minister of Rural development from January to July 2011 and Minister of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises from January 2011 to May 2012.

Leaders of congress sadly share with the press that there can be one to fill the space in the party now; no one would be able to have that fame among Maharashtrians as Deshmukh had. He could handle any intra-party troubles in a witty manner. Undoubtedly his death is a huge loss to the Maharashtra government. May his soul rest in peace.
