Panjagutta junction faces terrible traffic chaos

Hyderabad News: For the second time in the same spot, the road collapsed in Panjagutta area exactly opposite to the place called Model House. This happened yesterday evening around 4pm on 10 August. This unexpected caving of the road led to chaos on road. Traffic from khairatabad to Panjagutta junctions was in a hopeless condition until GHMC officials came in to save the situation.

Immediately, the traffic coming from kharatabad and Erra Manzil bus stops were diverted to the road leading to Taj Krishna-GVK one-Nagarjuna Circle-Panjagutta crossroads. While this was the changed route of traffic coming from Abids and Lakdikapool; the traffic coming from SR Nagar and Ameerpet was diverted to go from Somajiguda, Raj Bhavan road. Thus the whole stretch of road from Khairatabad Junction to Panjagutta-Hyderabad Central junction was completely closed. It will remain closed for two more days till the GHMC works are finished.

Earlier in February, the same spot on the road got collapsed. The GHMC officials hurriedly constructed a road using concrete material. This time, the caving or collapsing took place because of the stagnant rain water and unused hollow portion under the road.  This hollow portion was meant for drainage pipeline but left unused.

The same kind of collapsing took place in Ameerpet junction last year which the GHMC constructed. As a result of this incident, the engineering wing of GHMC decided to check that portion of road in Ameerpet before this problem arises. The reason for Panjagutta road’s collapse isn’t still stated but officials suggest that there might be loose soil under the road apart from the unused drainage lines.
