20 July, 2012 is the date of commencement of Ramzan or Ramadan month according to Muslim calendar. While the date differs from year to year according to Gregorian calendar, it is same for the community which follows lunar calendar system. In North America it will commence on 21 July 2012. As the countdown started and just few hours left, the City of Nawabs, Hyderabad is getting prepared for the holy fasting.

 

The streets of old city and Charminar are already witnessing the festivity with huge crowd gatherings. The markets are filled with special dates, dry fruits, Khajoors and many more spice items imported from Saudi and other Arab countries. The city people are eagerly waiting to see the fully decorated Charminar especially in the night. The fully decorated streets with spectacular colourful lights will soon be a reality.

 

Mud ovens are being set up everywhere in the city for the preparation of “Hyderabadi Haleem”. Hyderabadi Haleem has been added as international delicacy in the food items list. The busiest areas in Hyderabad since a few days are Patherghatti, Patel Market, Charminar and streets of Mecca Masjid. Philanthropist activities have been taken up by NGOs like Moulana Ghayas ahmed Rashadi. Ramzan ration is being distributed in the slum areas among the poorer sections of Muslim community.
