One week after a 17 year old was molested on the busy streets of Guwahati, only 7 of the main accused persons were arrested. According to the reports, 7 more are still absconding and loose in the society. The deadline given by Assam Chief Minister to the police ends today. Yet the police are incapable to arrest the chief accused of Guwahati molestation case. Furthermore, the government raised the reward money of helping to find the accused to 1 Lakh in INR.
Some of the latest developments of this case are the TV journalist, Gaurav Jyoti Neog, who was accused of being the brain behind this attack resigns from his job; Police face extreme criticism and pressure from all over the country due to their inefficient slow progress in this case; the National Commission for Women is to submit the detailed report of the incidents occurred on that ghastly night.
The policeman, who was on duty when the incident took place, was suspended due to his negligence; cigarette burns found on the victim’s body suggesting that the accused burnt her with the cigarettes in their hands during the incident; media’s ethics were questioned as to why the incident was filmed on mobile phone and uploaded on youtube than helping the girl. The main accused in this case Amar Jyothi Kalita was arrested in Bhuneshwar Railway Station. The police is yet to confirm his arrest.
There are still many loopholes in this whole case. The NCW chairperson visited the girl personally on Saturday to know about the details of the incident. Their report will be submitted today and let us hope that this will throw more light on the facts rather than the media’s hype.
