Aamir's Satyamev Jayate episode 2, child sexual abuse
Aamir Khan is back with the second episode of 'Satyamev Jayate'. The first episode dealt with the issue of female foeticide and how the problem persists across all sections of the society. If reports are to be believed then the second episode is going to deal with the problem of child abuse.

The makers showcased several examples to make their point. Aamir's presence on the show grabbed initial eyeballs. One of the most successful TV debut by any Bollywood actor, Aamir Khan's 'Satyamev Jayate' received very high rating points.

However, that's not all. Aamir, with the help of a counselor, explains why the child is not able to confide to his parents about the abuse. The most shocking revelation has to be that at present, there's no clear-cut law on child sexual abuse in India! Unbelievable but true!

A survey conducted in 2007 by the Women and Child Development Ministry and the NGO Prayas in association with Unicef and Save the Children across 13 states and with a sample size of 12,447, found that 53.22% of children reported having faced one or more forms of sexual abuse. Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Assam and Delhi had reported the highest percentage of such incidents at that time.

In 50% of the cases, the abusers were known to the child or were in a position of trust and responsibility and most children did not report the matter to anyone. The aim of the study was to develop a comprehensive understanding of the phenomenon of child abuse, with a view to facilitate the formulation of appropriate policies and programmes meant to effectively curb and control the problem of child abuse in India.

The National Study on Child Abuse is one of the largest empirical in-country studies of its kind in the world. This study also complements the UN Secretary General's Global Study on Violence against Children 2006.

Actor Sridevi‘s guest appearance to cheer up Harish seemed to lighten up the mood a bit, and the show soon ended with a song rendered by composer Ram Sampath.

Aamir and his team win hearts by openly discussing a sensitive topic that even the most open-minded people hesitate to talk about. But I have a grouse! What was the need to advise viewers that, if need arises, they should refrain their children from watching the episode? Surely, the topic discussed was very uncomfortable. But it's surely something that children need to know, also considering that a large number of them are victims of abuse. But overall, no complaints as his subtle manner of hosting the show and talking with the guests on the show are unparalleled!
