I-T Returns last date extended to 31 August 2012

Hyderabad News: The previous last date for filing I-T Returns was 31 July 2012 but now postponed to 31 August 2012. The main reason for taking this decision was the extreme power cuts across the state due to which the online transactions will be disrupted. The pressure from more than 21 states in the country led the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) to change its decision.

Since the Income Tax Office or the Aayakar Bhavan opened its counters in the building, there was a heavy rush of people. There was a lot of chaos as the rush was immense and the officials couldn’t take the pressure of the flow of public. Later in the afternoon the officials received the confirmation that the date was postponed to 31 August 2012. It was then announced to the public.

The e-filing norm is made compulsory to those who receive income of 10 Lakh or more from this year. Considering this, the Central Board decided to extend its last date so that income holders can make the necessary arrangements. Comparing with the number of people who came to file I-T Returns last year, this year it was very low. Only 7258 in Aayakar Bhavan in Basheer Bagh and 1938 in IT Towers in A.C. Guards. Last year the number was close to 18000.

The exemption was given for those earning below 5 Lakh per annum from the e-filing norm from this year. While some were exempted, for some it was made mandatory to file for Returns. Many people filed the returns much before the initial deadline that is 31 July 2012 itself. Even after this, there was a heavy rush on the last date yesterday. A total of 112872 Returns were filed only in the month of July 2012.
