The day India stands unified; Independence Day

Independence Day is a mark of that day in Indian history when it got freedom from British rule. It was on 15 August 1947 that British decided to end their rule in India. Officially in terms of constitution, India became independent on 26 January 1950. On January 26 India became a complete republic country; which could form its own government under a secular or democratic rule according to the wish of the people. After much consideration by the then leaders, India was declared as a Secular State. Independence was achieved by following the Indian Independence Movement non-violently and in peaceful manner. Independence Day is a national holiday in India.

History & Partition post independence:

During those years, Britain Russia and America were the leading countries and conquered many other smaller countries. Immediately after the Second World War, British lost the strength of the army. There was no support to the nation from any other nations nor was there strength of army. Thus they decided to quit the rule in India. In February 1947, the Prime Minister of UK Clement Attlee admitted that they are ready to grant British India freedom.

There was another Act called Indian Independence Act 1947, that Parliament of UK partitioned British India into two states namely territory of India and territory of Pakistan. Both India and Pakistan agreed to this officially on 18 July 1947. A constitution was formed under the decision of Indian National Congress and Jawaharlal Nehru became the first Prime Minister of India and Dr. Rajendra Prasad the first president. Indian National Anthem, National Emblem and other National elements were defined later on by the constitution.

Indian flag:

Indian Flag is a tricolour flag with deep saffron, white, dark green and navy blue Asoka Chakra in the middle of the white layer in the flag. The Asoka Chakra consists is a wheel with 24 spokes. Saffron in Indian Flag represents courage and sacrifice, White colour represents peace and truth and Green represents faith and chivalry. Earlier there was a Charkha in the middle of the white of flag. Charkha was taken as a tribute to the leader Mahatma Gandhi who made an outstanding effort to bring independence to India. It was then replaces by Asoka Chakra which was accepted by all the existing law bodies.

Celebration in India:

Being a national holiday, all the government and private sectors declare a holiday. The government wings even hoist the National Flag on this day. It is mandatory for the officials to be a part of this occasion in some departments like National Defense Academy. All the schools and colleges in India hoist the flags and celebrate this festival with great pomp.

The flagship event takes place every year in New Delhi where PM hoists the National Flag at Red Fort. A speech is followed after that by PM and various other delegates. Every other organization hoists flags as per their wish. A Military parade will be conducted with patriotic songs sung all over the country. The central government announces some important decisions taken regarding laws of the government.

Many freedom fighters and great heroes who sacrificed their lives in the freedom fight are recollected on this day. Military wing honours its exceptional officers with medals and awards titles to them on this day. No creed, caste or religion becomes a reason to stop the enjoyment of the people. On this day, all the groups of the society come together on one common ground; the Indian independent Land and celebrate Independence Day grandly.
