Dr. Dasari Narayana Rao: Actor, Director,A Living Legend
Dr. Dasari Narayana Rao was born on May 4, 1947 in a place called Palakol of West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh. Born to a family of agriculturist, Dasari Garu did not limit himself to his father’s profession, but allowed his imaginations and ambition turn into reality.

Started off as a BA in commerce, he used to take part in various stage dramas by writing script to the plays along with acting in them. He was soon recognized as a talented stage artist, lyricist and director which ushered him to work in films. He acted in Telugu, Kannada and Tamil films in the beginning of his career. He finally settled in Telugu Film Industry and directed his first film Tata Manavadu in 1972. Since then there was no looking back in his life.

Dr. Dasari Narayana Rao’s Career life:

Dr. Dasari Narayana Rao served Telugu Film Industry for over 4 decades. His name is taken with honour and respect. He introduced veteran actors like Mohan Babu, R. Narayana Murthy, Raviraja Pinisetty, Mutyala Subbaiah and many actors to Telugu film industry. Dasari Garu directed over 150 films, worked as lyricist and dialogue writer in 250 films and produced 50 films in his Telugu film career.

Apart from a being a legend in Telugu film industry, Dr. Dasari Narayana Rao also made his mark in small screen by directing serial Vishwamithra in Hindi using hi-tech camera 2 decades ago. He is also a journalist and entered journalism by starting a daily newspaper called Udayam. We can witness what his dedication was towards his work. Today he holds the following titles: Actor, Film Director, Film Producer, Writer, Politician, Lyricist, Publisher and Magazine Editor.

Dr. Dasari actively campaigned for Indian National Congress during Rajiv Gandhi period. In the late 1990s, he parted off from Congress party and planned to start his own party called Telugu Talli. In 2000, he was elected as a member to Rajya Sabha. And in 2004, he became active member of Congress Party again and was elected as Minister of Coal and Mines for the state’s Ministry of coal and Ministry of Mines.

Awards won by Dr. Dasari Narayana Rao:

He won many awards during his film career for his services done to the Telugu Film Industry. Some of the prominent ones are National FilmAwards, Nandi Awards, Filmfare Awards South, CineMAA Awards, Vamsee Berkeley, Kalasagar, Shiromani, Madras Film Fans Awards, Cine Herald Awards, Jyothi Chitra Super Director Award for six times, Ancient Andhra Patrika Best Director Award for six times, Shoban Babu first memorial award in 2009.

He was honoured with Kalaprapoorna, doctorate for his contribution to Telugu film Industry and Telugu Culture. His latest works include movies like Paramveer Chakra and Young India which he directed. He also wrote Dialogues, Story and Screenplay to the film Young India and was announced to be a success. He focuses on message oriented films than giving priority to show off. His films are centered with social themes like anti-dowry system and crimes against girls because of which his works receive critical acclaim from all over the world.
