Trivedi's replacement Mukul Roy takes oath as Rail Minister
Trinamool Congress' Mukul Roy was sworn-in on Tuesday as Railway Minister to replace his party colleague Dinesh Trivedi, who was forced to resign over the fare hike controversy.
President Pratibha Patil will tomorrow administer the oath of office as cabinet minister to Trinamool Congress MP Mukul Roy, who will take charge of railway ministry.
Most of Trinamool Congress MPS were also present at the Rashtrapati Bhavan to witness the ceremony. Prior to taking over as Railway Minister, Roy was the minister of state for shipping.
Trivedi had to resign after TMC chief Mamata Banerjee opposed the hike in passenger fares announced by him in the Rail Budget presented to Parliament last week.
The President, as advised by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, has accepted the resignation of Dinesh Trivedi from the Union Council of Ministers, with immediate effect, the statement said.
Banerjee had written to the Prime Minister that Trivedi should be replaced by Roy.
Trivedi sent his resignation to the PM on Sunday evening.
