SECRET LAKE (DURGAM CHERUVU)
The lake Durgam Churuvu is also called as Secret Lake as it is hidden between the Jubliee Hills and Madhapur localities of Hyderabad city. The lake occupies a total of 83 acres of geographical area. During the time of Qutub Shahi rule, the lake used to serve as fresh water source for the people living in Golconda Fort.
Coming to tourism the city government’s tourism department started to promote the lake as a tourism spot in 2001. Close to 5 boats were deployed at the lake for the purpose of rowing. By the end of 2002, the lake already became the most desirable destination for tourism for the city residents mainly for fishing, weekend holiday trips owing to scenic beauty of the lake.
Furthermore, the surroundings were beautified by the officials by arranging artificial waterfalls, illumination of the border of the lake, constructing rock garden and floating fountain. Certain adventure sports like rock climbing, Trekking and Rappelling were initiated by the government and encouraged people from all parts of the country to participate in them. Amphitheater was also constructed which accommodates about 1500 people near the lake.
Of late, the lake lost its luster because of the water pollution and accumulation of sewage waste in it. The main reason behind it is the illegal housing constructions and human habitat which led to all the domestic waste to be disposed off in this lake.
AP Tourism organises boating on the lake. Angling facility available at Rs.50/- for 2 hours with a limit to catch 3 fish.
Mechanized Boat Adult Rs.40/-
Pedal Boat Rs.25/-
