Saroor Nagar Lake Hyderabad
Saroor Nagar Lake:
The Saroor Nagar Lake is very near by the Priyadarshini Lake but much bigger than the latter. Saroornagar Lake is in Hyderabad city in Andhra Pradesh in India. It is spread over a total area of 99 acres and 6.1m deep managed by HUDA. In 2004 the lake was cleansed and restored as it was all destroyed after the expansion of Hyderabad in 1956. It is one of the 5 major water bodies in Hyderabad and one of the few boastful assets of the city.
After 1956, the urbanization in and around the city has increased human population and in turn destroyed the natural elements of the lake. The wastes of fertilizers, pesticides, domestic sewage and industrial wastes were heavily dumped into the lake. In 2003, the government of AP along with Ministry of Tourism undertook the responsibility of cleaning the lake and established two sewage treatment plants. They succeeded in cleansing 95% of the lake only after four years of establishment of the plants.
The park has an environmental education center which educates even the illiterates how and what kind of initiatives are to be taken regarding environmental pollution. This project of establishment of education centre was very much supported by the localities of L.B. Nagar and Vanasthalipuram. The lake still attracts many people from not only the city but also from other neighboring districts.
