Visakhapatnam: Normal life was partially hit in the Maoists stronghold areas here and in Vizianagaram district on the first day of two-day Andhra-Odisha Border (AOB) bandh called by the ultras.

The AOB Special Zonal Committee of the CPI (Maoist) had given a call for the bandh demanding suspension of the Operation Green Hunt.

According to police, the first day of the bandh passed off peacefully without any untoward incidents.

While life in the mandal headquarters in Visakhapatnam agency largely remained unaffected, shops and other commercial establishments remained closed.

Movement of public transport buses to remote tribal areas in GK Veedhi, Chintapalle, Munchangiput and few other mandals was partially hit and created inconvenience for the commuters.

Police have advised officials of the state transport corporation to minimise their services to interior places in Visakhapatnam agency on Monday to avoid any untoward incidents.

Police are carrying out thorough vehicle checks at the entry points and dog squads have also been pitched in.
