CBI defends Chidambaram in Supreme Court

On raising speculations about Chidambaram role in 2 g scam CBI defended Home minister Chidambaram in the Supreme Court yesterday.

CBI said that the then finance minister Chidambaram didn't alone have the power to cancel the 2G spectrum licenses as it was the collective responsibility of the government.

Senior counsel k. k. Venugopal said that “it is easy to attack the then Finance Minister as it will get them headlines and it is politically fruitful for them. Attacking the then finance secretary [D subba rao] will not get them headlines.”

And while opposing the idea of Special Investigation Team (SIT) demanded by lawyer Prashath Bhushan he said “CBI was an independent agency and was dealing the case fairly.”
