ICMR: Diabetes in India

Diabetes is growing very fat in India in both Urban and rural populations. However growing rate of diabetes in rural population is less than the urban rate.

The recently released Indian Council of Medical research- India-Diabetes (ICMR-INDIAB) study endangers the situation and needs robust action to prevent and control the Diabetes.

The study conducted in four states, Maharashtra, Tamilnadu, Jharkhand and Chandigarh showed danger numbers. It is 10.4% in Tamilnadu, 8.4% in Maharashtra, 5.3% in Jharkhand, 13.6% in Chandigarh and pre-diabetes patients are 8.3%, 12.8%, 8.1% and 14.6% respectively. If the same situation prevails, it leads to Coronary artery disease, eye and kidney damage and foot related problems.

The government must take some preventive strategies to control the new cases and also aware people to get it checked periodically before it become complex problem. Modification in life style also helps to prevent and control the diabetes.
