Hyderabad: A local court on Friday sent Malishetty Bhanu Kiran, the prime accused in the sensational murder last year of factionist Gangula Suryanarayana Reddy alias Suri, to judicial remand till May 18.

The CID, which was earlier granted nine-day police custody of Bhanu, produced him before the court following expiry of his custodial interrogation period, which remanded him to 14-days judicial custody. After this, he was taken to Cherlapalli jail amidst tight security.

Bhanu Kiran, one of the most wanted persons in Andhra Pradesh and a former aide of Suri, was arrested by a CID team on the outskirts of Zaheerabad town in Medak district on April 21, after evading arrest for over 15 months.

The CID had taken him to Seoni in Madhya Pradesh where he stayed while being on the run and procured ration card on the basis of fake documents. They questioned him over the firearms seized from his possession.

A faction leader from Anantapur district in Rayalaseema region of Andhra Pradesh, Suri, who was prime accused in the murder of TDP MLA Paritala Ravi in 2005, was shot dead allegedly by Bhanu in a car at Yousufguda here on January 3 last year.
